Chateau Fleur de Lisse Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2016
We drink a lot of Cabernet being in the Napa Valley, of course, but that may be over for a while. This 2016 Grand Cru St. Emilion, made under the aegis of the consultant winemaker for Chateau Petrus (yes, Petrus), Jean Claude Berrouet, is just absolutely CRUSHING anything we can find in the under-$30 “big red” world, and we are going to yell about it from the rooftops while we have it -- head-spinningly lush, delicious, mouthfilling incredibleness for our price! Wow!!
45 year old vines. Organic/biodynamic farming. SEXY, opulent, generous, silky Bordeaux. Don’t forget -- 2016 is THE vintage to buy when it comes to Bordeaux! The Merlot just FLOWS with ripe black cherry, exotic woodsmoke, bergamot, a lip-smacking, salivary-gland-activating whiff of roasting coffee beans, and sweet red fruits...but it’s the warm, balanced, round mouthfeel and texture that just KILL IT for us in this fantastic wine. Not to mention the PRICE! C’mon!!

The result of a legendary vintage and crafted under the aegis of Jean Claude Berrouet (consultant winemaker for Petrus), this
wine is a sustained ruby hue with deep purple tints. Its bouquet is perfectly pure and expressive, displaying notes of red berries,
cassis and blackberry, and is followed by an ample, smooth and remarkably balanced palate. The finish is refined, the back-of palate discreetly toasty and smoky.

Vineyard: The soils are clay and limestone with a higher percentage of limestone in the hilly areas.

Aging/Cooperage: Each parcel of grapes was picked and vinified separately. The estate uses two press wines which were again vinified separately in temperature-controlled vats. The wine was aged in oak barriques for 18 months in 22% new oak.

About The Producer
Château de Lisse was one of the largest vineyards in Saint Étienne de Lisse in the early twentieth century. It
is one of the oldest vineyards in Saint Émilion, which explains why the average age of the vines is 45 years.
From 1940 to 2015 it belonged to the Minvielle family, who over the years made it prosper and modernised
the winemaking business by building a vatting cellar. In 2015, the château was acquired by the Teycheney
family, who already owned Château La Loubière and, being passionately interested in farming and wine,
decided to farm using biodynamic methods.
