Montalbera Fuori Catalogo Piemonte 2016 - Last Bottle

Montalbera Fuori Catalogo Piemonte 2016

Yep, not a typo. It’s so imperative you move like the wind, we are loathe to even say any more!

Crazy, right? 98 POINTS from Luca Maroni (the well-respected Italian reviewer), saying: “An amazing wine for the money, the absolute best Italian value red for the second vintage” and utterly, completely, astoundingly priced TWELVE BUCKS! Now THAT’S why we pilgrimage to Europe 2-3 times a year! WOW!!

We bought every single bottle we could possibly beg, borrow or steal, and it just hit the warehouse. We are kids in a candy store right now, oh yes. How many people have a 98-pointer for a “house wine” price?? Oh, and speaking of the wine --- can you say outrageously quaffable? A tasty, lip-smacking, light-bodied red that is highly, titillatingly intriguing -- it dances around your mouth with bright red/purple fruit, crisp cherries, toasted licorice (we know, seems weird, but it works, trust us), cedar and orange pekoe tea. Almost weightless, with light tannins, and packed with flavor --- it’s a blend of Barbera and Ruche (also a highly rated wine from this winery) --- a massive crowd-pleaser and terrifyingly drinkable!! $12!! Did we mention that??

Goodness --- if you read this far it’s probably gone! Good luck! We got our cases!!!

Gaudy-red with slight purple reflections when young, tending to garnet after fining. Intense and fruity, with scents of red fruits and apricot. Delicate, smooth and full-bodied, with scents of berries jam.

About The Producer

The Montalbera Winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in an area located in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato, and Montemagno. In the mid-1980s, the Morando family began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruchè; they continue to grow their landholdings. Today, a continuous stretch of vineyard-covered land encircles the winery. The vineyards are planted entirely on hillsides, giving the vines different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone. A unique aspect that has always distinguished Montalbera in the Piedmontese winemaking landscape is that the winery sits astride two of the region’s most important winemaking zones: the Monferrato and the Langhe.
