Bodega Poesia Red Blend Mendoza Argentina 2008 - Last Bottle

Bodega Poesia Red Blend Mendoza Argentina 2008

Whoa, it’s gettin’ REAL up in here today! What a find!! 94 POINTS (and 96 points in Wine Advocate’s “Hedonist Gazette”, more on that below!), yes, but there are so, SO many reasons that this wine will rock your body and soul, we’re going to bust out some bullet points!!

  • OLD Malbec vines in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo, a historic site. How old?? Dating back to 1935!! For perspective...canned beer was invented, Babe Ruth hit his 714th home run, Persia was renamed Iran, while Roosevelt was President and a loaf of bread cost 8 cents.

  • POESIA is made by none other than Helene Garcin, the owner of the legendary CHATEAU CLOS L’EGLISE in Pomerol, Chateau Haut-Bergey and the sumptuous wines of CHATEAU BRANON in the Graves. Bordeaux brilliance in Argentina!

  • Gorgeously aged, pristine bottles direct from the winery. 94 POINTS Vinous! 96 HG! And 93 from Suckling!

  • Our PRICE, of course...absolutely astounding for a wine at perfect peak like this!

With a good decade of age on this finesse-filled beauty, it is now….PERFECT. Perfect to drink, to contemplate, to discuss, to savor (preferably with an asado, of course). Yes!

Need more convincing? Read this 2012 writeup in the Hedonist Gazette (a section of the Wine Advocate Website) from Parker himself, where he realizes his colleague drastically underscored the wine: “Vertical tasting of Poesia...2008 is very stunning...telltale floral notes, lots of licorice, espresso, blackberry fruit, full-bodied, sweet, integrated tannins...Big Jay scored it in the low 90s, ...I am much higher on it than that…!” (96 points)

Complex blackberry hits you right off (Is it pie? Jam? Freshly crushed? All, probably!), with figs and layers of black fruits, spearmint, dark roast coffee beans, earth, sweet licorice-y herbs and silky tannins. There’s a depth in the finish and complexity that ONLY comes from bottle age, and this is just right now. An amazing find! KILLER price! While it lasts…!

POESIA is a boutique winery made on 13 hectares of one of the oldest vines in Mendoza. Planted with Malbecs and Cabernets Sauvignons dating to 1935, the property is located in the heart of Lujan de Cuyo, a historic site, commonly known as "primera zona" for Argentine Malbec.

About The Producer

Helene Garcin owns some key properties in Bordeaux, among them CLOS L’EGLISE in Pomerol and the sumptuous wines of BRANON in the Graves. In 2002, she discovered this vineyard planted to some remarkably old Malbec dating back to 1935, as well as a little Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is now being run completely naturally without herbicides or pesticides. Fermentation for the top reds is in 60hl Bordelaise wooden vats and some new French oak is used in the cellar.

Pairing Suggestions

Pairs well with jamon serrano, carne asada tacos, and manchego!
