Domaine Besson Montmains Chablis Premier Cru 2015 - Last Bottle

Domaine Besson Montmains Chablis Premier Cru 2015

STEELY. Tongue-on-stone. RACY! We NEVER see enough steely, mouth-watering, zesty, savory Chablis here at LB - but today it is ON, with Premier Cru (1er Cru) Chardonnay brilliance at a staggeringly low price --- really...Premier Cru white Burg at anywhere NEAR a price like this is unheard-of. So, with that said...snag a few, you will be thrilled, we promise.

2015 is FANTASTIC in Burgundy, and to get a hold of the Montmains vineyard from Besson is simply skin-tinglingly great. A third-generation winegrowing family (since 1902), Besson’s style leans a tiny bit to the “fleshier” side of Chablis with a touch more ripeness than some others, and in a killer vintage like 2015, you will taste the gorgeousness, oh yes. This is Chablis that walks a fine line between the flinty, crisp, brisk acidity and the lusher, more tropical flavors. Never heavy in any way, it has ripe fruit and steely minerality. It will continue to improve over a year or so as well --- wow! We bought as much as we could from the Domaine (sadly, less than we'd like....) but if REAL DEAL Chardonnay is your bag -- today is the day! While it lasts!

The romance of small, family-owned winemaking is alive and well in Burgundy.

But if big, thick, Cali Chardonnay is your thing, look elsewhere.

These wines are all about pure elegance – but don’t let that fool you into thinking they lack complexity. This is stony, minerally, super-clean and complex Chardonnay at its best.

About The Producer

Domaine Besson's history dates back to 1902 and spans four generations. In 1902, Eugène Besson planted 7.58 hectares off vines in Chablis. Today his grandson, Alain, owns the Domaine. Alain’s daughter Camille received her diploma of oenology in 2013 and leads their winemaking efforts.

Like most Burgundy growers, Alain holds a hearty respect for the land. He uses a minimum of sprays and fertilizers and takes a non-interventionist approach to farming. He secured some fantastic parcels over the years, expanding to 21+ hectares of Chablis, Petit Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Chablis Grand Cru. They produce two Grand Crus, one from Vaudésir and the other from a tiny plot of vines smack dab in the middle of the legendary Le Clos vineyard.
